Nitrogen

Definition

Nitrogen is a natural element and primary building block for all life. It promotes all aspects of plant growth and overall plant health. Nitrogen gas comprises 78 percent of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Some plants and organisms can directly convert nitrogen gas into a form they can use, but most plants can’t. And because many soils are deficient in nitrogen, fertilizers are used to deliver nitrogen to the soil and ultimately plants’ roots.

All Scotts® Lawn Food is formulated with slow-release nitrogen sources that help your lawn stay consistently healthy for longer periods of time.

Common nitrogen sources:

  • Urea
  • Ammonium sulfate
  • Potassium nitrate
  • Feathermeal
  • Soybean meal
