Sometimes we need a reminder of what we’re all about, why we do what we do at ScottsMiracle-Gro. As a company, we’re committed to GroMoreGood everywhere. This week, we just so happened to be growing more good on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Grow Kindness times two
For the second year, the Miracle-Gro team partnered with Ohio State for its Grow Kindness event.
The plant giveaway event is designed to inspire kindness by giving the university community two plants–one for themselves and one to give to someone else. Studies show that taking care of plants and the act of doing something for someone else can improve mental health. Win-win!
Who doesn’t love a collab?
Led by Hailey, Brian and the Miracle-Gro team, several groups worked together to make the day a success. Supply chain ensured the team had enough soil for 10,000 plants. R&D provided the plant expertise for those who had growing questions throughout the day. The comms team helped get the word out. It was a full team effort.
Kindness in the air
While data says that plants improve people’s moods, the smile index on campus was off the charts as people potted plants, learned how to care for them and posed by the plant wall. The act of receiving plants just seemed to bring joy to everyone who stopped by.
Next gen opportunity
With so many students stopping by to get plants, the brand team knew this was a perfect opportunity to connect with first-time gardeners. They set up tents and provided free t-shirts simply for following Miracle-Gro on Instagram or TikTok. Through conversations with potential new consumers, the team was also able to get valuable anecdotal feedback on gardening.
Grow Kindness, GroMoreGood
It’s been a pleasure working with Ohio State on two Grow Kindness projects. The Grow Kindness message aligns perfectly with our purpose to GroMoreGood everywhere, so we were honored to be a part of such a joyful, plant-filled day.
